The South Shore Community Center Nursery School focuses on the individuality and uniqueness of each child. We provide an environment that allows each child to develop at their own pace. Activities are planned that encourage self-confidence, spontaneity, curiosity, and self-discipline, as well as assisting in the development of the child's social and emotional health.
The South Shore Community Center Nursery School believes that play is a child's work and that learning occurs during developmentally appropriate, child-centered activities. Children learn concepts best when they are meaningful and relevant to them. Consequently, it is the teacher's responsibility to create a learning-enriched environment, which provides stimulating and challenging experiences for children. The teacher acts as a facilitator: encouraging, promoting and reinforcing a child's attempts, questions, skill development, and discoveries. Our programs recognize children as core participants, encouraging active engagement and laying the foundation for lifelong learning.
We are part of the South Shore Community Center (SSCC). The SSCC’s purpose is to maintain an organization for the civic, social, charitable, educational and recreational betterment of the town and surrounding communities. We have been fostering and encouraging this purpose by providing quality programs from infant to adult for over 40 years. We provide a range of classes including cooking, bowling, gym classes, health and wellness seminars and more.
The Yellow Room is for 2 & 3 year old children. This program provides an opportunity to learn through play. Children will be immersed in language and song during their time in school. Teachers will create developmentally appropriate experiences to encourage language, social skills, physical development, and literacy. Our Yellow Room Program is for children that will be 2 by September 1.
The Red Room is for 3 & 4 year old children. The children work on autonomy and building positive relationships with teachers and peers. Children are supported during social interactions by teacher modeling and encouragement. Teachers provide multi-sensory experiences to promote learning and success. Our Red Room program is for children that will be 3 by October 1.
The Blue Room is for children ages
4 & 5. This program offers open-ended activities to encourage flexible thinking and problem solving. Children are given many opportunities to build literacy, practice writing, pre-reading and math skills. The program focuses on building the organizational and self help skills necessary for a solid start in Kindergarten.
